ALBION, MI — An Albion-based company that manufacturers industrial casters plans to expand its operations and staff after the purchase of a California-based company.
Caster Concepts Inc. announced the acquisition of the Los Angeles County based Aerol Co., Inc. in November. The two companies design and produce casters and wheels, the pivoting wheel or roller attached to the bottom of something to make it moveable.
Caster Concepts will move Aerol’s operations to Albion, along with its equipment, design and engineering work and two of the latter company’s sales representatives. Four to six additional employees are expected to be added to the company of about 100 staff members. Hiring is already in process, the company said.
Caster Concepts’ purchase of Aerol expands its product line of industrial casters to include Aerol’s specialty of aluminum casters and wheels designed for the aerospace, military and energy industries, according to the release.
Caster Concepts plans to expand production, staffing and manufacturing personnel in central Michigan. It also intends to outsource aluminum casting production to a regional foundry.
“It’s an exciting time for Caster Concepts,” President and CEO Bill Dobbins said in a statement. “The acquisition is strategic purchase fits well with our product line and allows us to serve new customers while strengthening our work in aviation and government contracting.”
The transition is expected to be complete by the end of the year, officials said.
